I am indebted to Eric Reed for bringing this pipe to my attention. Murray Beachtel was his great grandfather. Eric has one of these pipes and his family still possess another two Now I have acquired an example I can say the body of the pipe is non metal, it does appear from having cleaned it of oxidisation to be vulcanite. It is a nightmare to clean and I wonder how efficient it would have been at cooling in comparison to a metal body. The passage of the smoke is in the region of 20 inches from bowl to bit as stated on the brochure and quite a volume of 'goo trap' at the base with the four 'drip chambers' Patented 25th Sept.1917 #1,241,462 link here for patent Overall length is 5 5/8 inches (143 m/m) and 3 inched tall (76 m/m) and weighs in at 1 1/4 ounce |
